How should i incorporate red into a painting of the moon and a howling wolf?
I am painting a picture of a moon,
it is going on a bright red wall,
how do you suggest i incorporate the red into the picture
its fairly abstract.. i have done a bulky, jagged layer of plaster on the canvas first, so i am not working with a flat surface
its black, with a large white, grey moon taking up most of the canvas, and a howling wolfs silhouette in the bottom left part of the moon,
i was thinking of having red paint seem as if it was dripping down the side of the moon,
and i have three small canvases to go along that have some chinese word symbols which will be in red,
any ideas?
I was taught a long time ago that sky does not always have to be blue, grass does not have to be green so consequently moons do not always have to be yellow. You can use only one color plus black and white and make a picture consisting of only tints and shades of one color, such a ultra marine blue. This is known as a monotone, or monochromatic painiting.
This is especially good for the beginning painter as he or she does not have to choose colors which sometimes proves to be a difficult task.
Personally, I have done several monotones and have always been pleased with the outcome. GIve it a try, the red moon could work out good for you and someday, there just might be a RED moon....God bless and happy painting....Nomadic
