"Renoir begins this picture of his friends Fournaise restaurant terrace in the summer of 1881. The restaurant is located in the village of Chatou, which is fashionable destination for picnics on the Seine. We can identify most of the people: Monsieur Fournaise, the owner, standing on the left; Aline Charigot, Renoir woman-to-be, sitting on the left; Baron Barbier, the top hat in the distance, in front law, Gustave Caillebotte, a painter.
