EXERCISE
Study after study has clearly shown that exercise promotes mental health and reduces symptoms of depression. This is probably the treatment best be undertaken immediately.
Depending on the age, circumstances and levels of fitness that can be simple as taking a gentle walk or jog every day. Get yourself some space and some fresh air into the lungs your. Notice the scenery.
Physical activity and exercise are powerful anti-depressants and numerous studies have shown that aerobic exercise, for example, can improve your mood and is an antidote for mild depression and anxiety.
Physical exercise level changes serotonin in your brain and increase your level of endorphins - "feel good" hormones. Clearly you can change your brain really better with exercise. It can ruin it with drugs.
A word of warning though: the practice can be problematic (ie am told).
MEDICAL
Get yourself a check and make sure that all your bits are working. Handle anything that is not - Preferably with diet and nutrition and NO drugs, whether it is feasible. Many physical illnesses (eg Lyme disease) have between their depression symptoms.
FOOD
Go see a nutritionist and get your diet all checked out, to find any food allergy. You'll be surprised how many cases actually screaming abdabs trace back to the fact that the person is ingesting poisons or a deficiency serious diet (or more than one). For example. B vitamins play a role in the production of certain neurotransmitters which are important in regulating mood and other brain functions and folic acid deficiency has been observed among people with depression. Vitamin B6, deficiency can result in depression and people with depression may respond better to treatment if they have high levels of vitamin B12.
Poisons above include but are not limited to: refined sugar, fructose, refined flour, processed foods, coffee, alcohol, street drugs, legal drugs, food preservatives, pesticides and other toxins.
Becoming of increasingly clear that omega-3 fats are a very important nutrient to actually treating depression. I strongly recommend high-quality omega 3 supplements such as fish oil.
LIGHT THERAPY
I have not tried this, but I heard many good things about it and its logic makes sense - though loved living in Old England (UK) and looking out the window My study at a gray and dismal November afternoon, I'm tempted to have a crack at it.

I kid you not. You will be surprised how much you'll feel better after not reading newspapers or watching the news for a while (or surfing the internet). The media bombard us morning, noon and night with bad news on bad news, problem after problem, usually dressed up to be as formidable as possible. It surprising then that people can get depressed.
The media may be doing little to boost its pharmaceutical sales, but we can only spend it.
EDUCATION
Learn a new skill or subject. Become more expert or knowledgeable about something. Most people can think of at least one subject that they always intended to take, but never made.
A practical physical skills that include making it probably the best, but anything that increases the power and respect for yourself will do the trick. But if you're studying something, here's a priceless tip that All the people turned my life around when it was given to me and now I am passing to you:
Never exceed a word you do not fully understand. Completely clear up in a good dictionary up to you really get it. You can actually increase your IQ by doing so.
Dianetics (recommended)
I would be very tell you about the science of Dianetics in the near future. If you want to understand your mind and what makes you and others people tick, if you want to know the source of neuroses, fears and constraints that prevail in, take a book on Dianetics and read it.
Just reading up on it and finally understanding the workings of my own mind (and the other guy) is good medicine for depression I never personally come across, but Dianetics goes much further than that. It gives the average person like you Tools and me with which to help themselves and each other.
Dianetics is currently taking the world by storm, with Dianetics groups springing up across the country. There is a very good reason for that.
Take a book Dianetics. Read it. Find that for yourself.
