Which historical narrative involving the Spanish-American War is NOT correct?
1) The American war with the Empire of Spain was at a time in which the United States decided to build a Navy. However, when orders came down to send troops to Cuba, the Rough Riders illustrated that this was, in part, a military contribution of elitists caught up in the western romanticism of the cowboy.
2) The Empire of Spain was never the same after Napoleon’s invasion in 1808 of the Iberian Peninsula. From this moment in time, territories in the empire were rebelling and obtaining their independence such as in Latin America. By the late 19C, a few island territories in the Pacific and Caribbean remained.
3) By the 1890s the Empire of Spain, along with other European nations, was expanding into non-Christian regions such as Africa and Asia. The United States did not contribute to this trend.
Definitely 3)
